WHAT IS THE QUEENSLAND FAMILY COHORT STUDY?
The Queensland Family Cohort, is an Australian research program dedicated to understanding the health of children and their families, the causes of disease, and providing benefit to the Australian community. We consist of three pillars.
UNDERSTANDING HEALTH NEEDS OF QUEENSLAND FAMILIES
We aim to do this through:
-
health assessments of mothers, partners and children over time
-
a dedicated children's biobank
-
cutting edge technologies
-
inclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
-
inclusion of rural/remote families
UNDERSTANDING EARLY LIFE CAUSES OF DISEASE
We aim to do this by understanding:
-
family circumstances such as employment, education and housing
-
mental health and wellbeing
-
environmental exposures
-
impacts of climate change
-
genomic profiles for a subset of the cohort
PROVIDING IMPORTANT BENEFITS TO THE QLD COMMUNITY
We aim to do this by reporting on:
-
evidence based health and wellbeing outcomes across Queensland families' lives
-
outcomes from diverse cultural groups
-
community engagement in health behaviour
-
shared vision with increasing scientific and organisational collaborations
